The Holy Spirit

February 12, 2010

The end of Acts 18 and beginning of 19 are one of my most favorite passages of Scripture with respects to the Holy Spirit.  You've got Apollos, saved, on fire for Jesus.  He is teaching people about the Good News.  Apollos runs into Paul at Corinth and Paul just asks him, 'Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?'  Apollos was like, 'no, I haven't heard anything about the Holy Spirit.' Paul lays hands on him and he receives the Holy Spirit and speaks in tongues and prophesies.

Being baptized in the Holy Spirit was a separate experience for Apollos.  Paul was so bold to ask him, 'have you been filled with the Holy Spirit?'  Paul knew that Apollos received the Holy Spirit because he spoke in tongues and prophesied.

Let's be a little more aggressive telling people about the Holy Spirit.  Now that I think about, I haven't preached on the Holy Spirit in a while.  I will schedule that in, probably around Pentecost.  When people tell us they are a Christian, let asked them, 'have you received the Holy Spirit?'

The Holy Spirit is a person.  He is real!  He brings power.  Oh 'you will be fill with the Holy Spirit not many days from now and be My witnesses.'

God Bless You,

Pastor Tom
