West Valley Foursquare Church

Ministered to the Lord

February 05, 2010

This morning I was reading in Acts 13 and verse 2 caught my attention.  It says, 'they ministered to the Lord and fasted.'  I understand fasting.  I've fasted before.  I don't enjoy it.  I think they should call it a slow, not a fast.  I mean really, think about it.

But anyway, I don't understand how we 'minister to the Lord.'  How can we, finite man, minister to an infinite, sovereign, omniscient, omnipresent and omnipotent God?  What do we have to give Him?  So I went back and read verse one and it said, there were certain prophets and teachers.'  Verse 2 'as they ministered to the Lord.'  So I looked up the word 'ministered' on blueletterbible.org and found out that the Greek word means normal priestly duties.  So the teacher and prophets were doing what they were called to do in the church; teacher, leading, fasting and praying.

I get it.  When we do our part in the church we are ministering to the Lord.  The verse, 'in as much as you do it to the least of these brothern, you do it unto Me' came to mind.  I guess I don't think about it that way.  When I serve West Valley Foursquare, I am ministering to the Lord.  That makes me think, 'I'd better have a better attitude.'

At the end of the chapter, verse 52 says, 'And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.'  Way cool, when we do what we are supposed to do in service as unto the Lord, He gives us joy and the Holy Spirit.

That is a pretty good deal.

God Bless You Loved Ones,

Pastor Tom
